Troop 461 Summer Camps

The 1950s

1956 - Camp Delmont, Green Lane, Pennsylvania

Troop 461 attended its first summer camp after its reorganization in early 1956 at Camp Delmont.  Pictured above are 12 members of the troop, along with Scoutmaster Harold L. Frederick, Jr., seen at the far left in the second row.

1957- Camp Delmont, Green Lane, Pennsylvania

The week of August 18-25, 1957, saw 15 members of Troop 461 enjoy a week of summer camp at Camp Delmont, near Green Lane.  The troop's campsite was "Lenni Lenapi" and a week of summer camp cost the princely sum of $17.00.

1958 - Camp Delmont, Green Lane, Pennsylvania

In 1958, Troop 461 spent a two-week summer camp at Camp Delmont.  The troop's campsite was called "Mohawk" and was included in the Camp Cedar portion of Camp Delmont.  Adult leadership for the two-week camp was split between Assistant Scoutmaster Marvin Long, pictured above in the third row on the far left, and Scoutmaster Harold L. Frederick, Jr., pictured below.  25 members of Troop 461 were in attendance the first week of camp, from July 13-20, 1958.

Thirteen members of Troop 461 stayed at Camp Delmont for the entire two-week encampment.  On July 18, 1958, Scoutmaster Harold Frederick, seen at the far left in the third row, joined the troop with nine additional Troop 461 members.

1959 - Elbow Lake, Ontario, Canada

August of 1959 saw Troop 461 experience its first of many summer camps in Canada.  That year, the troop took a two-week trip to various points in Canada, holding its summer camp at Elbow Lake, Ontario, along with Canadian Boy Scout Troop 10, of Kingston, Ontario.  Adult leaders attending the entire two-week Canadian adventure were Assistant Scoutmaster Merrill Myers, third from left, third row, and Scoutmaster Harold L. Frederick, Jr., fourth from left in the third row.  Other adult leaders who assisted during the trip were Richard Hedrick, John Bergstresser, Kenneth Scholl and Ralph Sell.
